Kamihama

This page contains information about the characters who appear in the Mitakihara Original side story, The Coven of Kamihama.

Kamihama is a large city neighbouring Mitakihara, making it just as much of a hotspot for Puella Magi activity. The rules for being a Puella Magi are quite different in this city, however. For some reason, magical girls inside the city do not turn into Witches when their Soul Gems are corrupted — in fact, they become able to manifest and control their own Witches with a magical ability called the “Doppel”. This doesn’t mean that the city is without its fair share of troubles, however. Due to a mysterious incident, likely the same incident that turned the rules of magic inside the city upside down, everyone who isn’t a Puella Magi has vanished from the city without a trace, and the remaining magical girls have divided themselves across two factions about to go to war.

Kiwako is a cheerful and energetic young Puella Magi who has been living alone in Kamihama ever since the mysterious disappearance of all non-magical beings from the city. She appears to be well-acquainted with Cecilia Ambrosi, though it is unknown how the two know each other. An often childish girl with a bratty streak, she is nevertheless quite responsible and has the uncanny ability to lift people’s spirits, which assists her in turning her idealism, which some would call naive, into a reality. Her abilities as a Puella Magi, as well as what she wished for, re unknown.

Following Kae’s rampage and Cecilia’s identity as a Puella Malefica being made known to her friends, Kiwako summons her to Kamihama in order to take down a group of magical girls named “the Coven”, which Kiwako believes to be responsible for the enigmatic events plaguing the city. With this goal in mind, Kiwako helps her — or at least attempts to — learn how to summon her own Doppel, believing this to be the ideal way for Cecilia to reckon with her past.

The Coven

The Coven are a group of Puellae Magi who all share the ability to summon their own Witches, known as Doppels, to fight on their behalf. According to Kiwako, they formed shortly after the city’s population vanished as a beneficial organization seeking to help those left behind, but grew mad with power and now strive to create something known only as “the ideal world”. Though most members of the Coven are middle schoolers, they are led by a mysterious older woman only referred to as “Malefica”.

Yoko Maeda is the Coven’s lowest-ranking member, a brusque, tomboyish martial artist who rules over the ideal world’s coastal areas. Her Doppel’s domain is referred to as “Miracle Beach”, which appears when she summons it. In spite of her big talk, she is easily defeated by Cecilia.

Masako Kamiya is the Coven’s eloquent and considerate second member. She rules over the ideal world’s lakes, rivers and canals. Though a more tactical fighter than Yoko, Cecilia bests her all the same, forcing her to stay at Kiwako’s place for the time being. She appears to know about Cecilia’s past as a Puella Malefica, but refuses to disclose how.

Kotone Kimura is the third member of the Coven, an irritable girl who tries to compensate for her diminutive stature with abrasive behaviour. She rules over the ideal world’s streets, and her Doppel’s domain, “Miracle Street”, manifests as a road that goes on forever. Cecilia is able to overcome her by summoning her own Doppel.

Hinata Yoshino is the Coven’s confident fourth member, who rules over the ideal world’s open spaces.

Rio Sato and her twin sister Riko Sato are the most powerful members of the Coven, and rule the hills of the ideal world. While quite shy and reserved, they are later revealed to be members of the Birds of Fujiwara. As a result, they seem to know even more of Cecilia’s history than the Oracle herself let show.
