Kiwa hummed a bit as she fluttered about her house, from the kitchen to the couch and back, gathering odds and ends and mixing something in a small, wooden bowl. Finally, seemingly satisfied with her work, she knelt down at the couch, dabbing some of the concoction with a cotton ball and applying it against the skin of her patient.
“Owowowow!” Yoko winced as the wound on her arm was treated. “Sheesh… that wasn’t even fair. She can’t even summon her Doppel!”
“The loser has no right to complain.” Cecilia was leaning against the far wall, hood over her face and eyes closed.
“It’s still stupid. We’re supposed to be stronger than your run of the mill magical girl. Kiwa-chan– ow, damn it!– where did you find this girl?”
Kiwa continued humming and treating Yoko’s wounds. “She came here when I called her, Yoko-chan.” Finally setting the apparent medicine down on the table, she hopped back up to her feet and skipped over to Cecilia’s side of the room. “Cece-chan, didja get a better idea of what I was talkin’ about now?”
“Indeed I have. Although… I am now unconvinced that I need to attune with my Witch as I am. I did not struggle in the slightest with the first member of the Coven.”
“Hey! It’s rude to talk about someone when they’re right next to you, lady!”
Cecilia continued, ignoring Yoko. “Kiwa-chan… I am not sure why you needed me here to help with this. From what I understand, this seems nothing more than a schoolyard gang causing mischief, rather than some cataclysmic threat to the world.”
“The Coven is much more than that. If it were like you said, Cece-chan, then why is no one else in town, hm?” Kiwa tilted her head, as if trying to peek under Cecilia’s hood. “Yoko-chan, you lost, so you gotta tell Cece-chan what you know. That’s the rules!”
Yoko sighed as she sat up, rubbing the back of her head. “…I don’t know that much myself, alright? I just know that in this town, I can use that power. My Doppel.”
“And with your Witch half, a fringe benefit; her barrier.”
“Issat what happens? All I know is, wherever I am when I call it out, I end up runnin’ on a beach.”
“You called it ‘Miracle Beach’. I can only surmise that the rest of you have a similar locale and nomenclature. ‘Miracles’. The Ideal World.”
“I’unno about all that, okay? I got the beach, and I can run as much as I want. The twins know more than I do, I just… stopped paying attention after awhile.”
“Just like in class…” Kiwa sighed and returned to Yoko’s side, applying the medicine on her knee now, with similar reactions.
“Ow, I’m fine already! Jeez, what is that stuff, anyway..?”
“The twins? Riko Sato, and her sister Rio?”
“Yep. And they’re not a lazy pushover like I am. They trained with their weirdo cousin in Mitakihara, so if you can’t actually use your Doppel, they’re gonna run right over you! Heh. That’s even assuming you can get to ’em.”
“Is there a hierarchy among your Coven?”
“Sort of, Cece-chan. See, there’s Yoko-chan here, and usually she’s followed around by–“
“Masako. Masako Kamiya.”
“And what is her miracle, exactly?”
“Nah. I don’t do spoilers, lady. Go find out for yourself.” Yoko closed her eyes and reclined back on the sofa.
“Yoko-chan’s right, Cece-chan. You gotta get back out there and get to work! Yoko-chan, mind the house while we’re gone?”
“W-Wait, you’re leavin’ me here? What the hell, Kiwa-chan?”
“You gotta stay here, Yoko-chan!” She skipped over to the front door, a reluctant Cecilia not far behind. Kiwako turned back and flashed a mischevous grin Yoko’s way and continued, “We’re gonna have more guests soon!”
