23 — The Final Intervention (pt. 1)

Yui didn’t waste even a second. Shocked awake, she stood, shaking the effects of the medicine she took free, stood, and in a flash, transformed in the doorway, walking to the entrance. She didn’t notice anyone in her way, nor waiting for her. Her vision was completely tunneled.

Just outside the door, Seia is preparing for her walk home, putting on her glasses and starting her phone navigation. She jumps and turns around as Yui throws the door open and nearly collides with her.

Seia: Whoa, there. Where are we going in such a hurry?

Yui: (She stops, glancing back at Seia) …It’s time. Shinju ran into me with Liu Fei down there. Combine that with pissing Niko off, she’s gonna be comin’ after me. So… I’m gettin’ somewhere before she comes here. Don’t wanna risk Aoi or the gym, y’know?

Seia: Or me. Seems like you’re always running from one fire to another…. Sorry, but Shinju is one of my Newspaper Club pumpkins so I can’t help you with this one. I don’t think you should be fighting.

Yui: I know. But you’re not at the level I need to beat some sense into me, Seia. I’m sorry. Shinju is… kinda my last hope on that front. Cecilia couldn’t do it, neither could Mei. Hanako can’t do it, either. Kohaku and Yuzuki won’t fight me. So… Shinju’s all that’s left. …I won’t kill her or anything, even if I win. I’m still me enough to pull that part off.

Seia: (She takes off her dark glasses and folds them up in her pocket with a sigh) Thanks to my fam I have some experience being support for someone who has to do things they shouldn’t, so… (She looks up, searching for eye contact without being sure where to look or if she has it. With a sigh and a shrug, she steps forward and hugs Yui, wrapping her arms around Yui’s neck) Well. It’ll be okay, Yui.

Yui: (Despite the odds, Seia’s eyes successfully met Yui’s. Also surprisingly, Yui returns the hug with a little sigh) …Yeah. It’ll be okay. (A beat of silence before Yui lets Seia go) …You might just surpass Mei at this rate, y’know. You got a good head on your shoulders, at least.

Seia: (She puts her dark glasses back on with a modest shake of her head) I better go now. Got a stop to make and I don’t want to be late or my family will worry. (She presses something in her pocket, and her phone loudly announces that it’s calculating the route to Berry Mart) Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.

Yui: (She pauses before finding the right words) I’ll see you tomorrow. Promise.
