On a train heading to the very centre of the city, one of the few lines that has returned to being fully operational, Koharu and Yosuke are sitting side by side, their backs to the window. Having made the best of a brief trip to the restroom to straighten out his uniform, properly button up his shirt and fix his hair, Yosuke smiles sheepishly at the girl next to him, who has changed into her most handsome hand-me-down hoodie and jeans for their date.
Yosuke: So, eh… Care to tell me where we’re going, senpai?
Koharu: Koharu.
Yosuke: … We’re going to your house?
Koharu: My name.
Yosuke: Yes… Koharu. That’s your name.
Koharu: If we’re gonna date, call me by my name. Gonna stop being your senpai after we graduate anyways.
Yosuke: O-Oh! (he blushes) I suppose my mom still calls my dad by a honorific, though, so it’s not too much of a worry.
Koharu: (she turns to him, with a questioning look) She’s his wife.
Yosuke: Old habits… die hard, I suppose?
Koharu: Lovers are equals. They should call each other by their names. Just their names.
Yosuke: … Does that mean you’re gonna start calling me by my name?
Koharu: I call you by your name all the time.
Yosuke: I regret to inform you that “hey, you” is not, in fact, my name, senpa—Koharu.
Koharu: … I’ve never needed to call you by your name… Yosuke.
Yosuke: … Okay, that’s weird.
Koharu: (she smiles mischievously) Back to “hey, you” then?
Yosuke: Sure then… senpai. You still haven’t told me where we’re going, though. We’re gonna, like, see a movie, or…?
Koharu: Why do people go on dates to the movies? You can’t talk to each other in the cinema. You can’t even see each other.
Yosuke: Well, I guess people just wanna share, like, an experience together, you know?
Koharu: Together with dozens of other people loudly munching popcorn?
Yosuke: I guess you have a point there… A theme park, then? Oh, are we going to Whimseyland?
Koharu: If we were, I’d have Chiaki and Kayo with me.
Yosuke: The aquarium?
Koharu: Can’t stand the smell. Besides… (she shrugs) None of these places are very… us. I don’t want us to do things people feel like they oughta do when they’re dating. I want us to do things we like.
Yosuke: … We’re going on a date to the library?
Koharu: (she smirks) Better. (she produces to tickets from her pocket)
Yosuke: The National Museum of Photography?
Koharu: There’s an exposition on award-winning photojournalism from the last decade. Wanna see if it’s all it’s cracked up to be.
Yosuke: … You mean, these internationally acclaimed pictures taken by some of the most talented photographers in history?
Koharu: … I mean dating. Wanna see if dating is all it’s cracked up to be.
Yosuke: Sure you do… (Now, it’s his time to smirk) … I didn’t know you were interested in photography.
Koharu: I’m interested in everything. As long as it’s interesting.
Yosuke: Can’t… argue with that. But, eh… thanks, senpai.
Koharu: Koharu.
Yosuke: T-Thanks… Koharu. I… Honestly, I didn’t even… (he shakes his head) No, I just… I really appreciate it. I’m happy.
Koharu: (she looks away) … I-It’s just something my sister recommended…
Yosuke: Heh… (satisfied, he leans back in his seat as a smile creeps onto his face — until suddenly) … Wait, did you just say that we are lovers?
