Yuzuki surveys the rail map at the local station, deciding on a destination. Not many places that were “lovely this time of year” in the middle of winter. She hadn’t planned where to go— she specifically told herself not to. This was her first unplanned vacation ever, and she figured this was the way to break old habits. She takes off her backpack, setting it at her feet while she waits for one of the little named dots on the map to speak to her.
Hanako arrives minutes later, though still early for her own train. Catching sight of Yuzuki, she cautiously approaches, setting her own bag down.
Hanako: …Tokai-san?
Yuzuki: O-oh, Sasaki-san. What a coincidence. Are you heading out of town as well?
Hanako: Ah, yes. I am. I’m going to Kamihama for a couple days.
Yuzuki: Oh, right! That, um… that young girl you’re friends with is from there, right? Is that a nice city to visit, Kamihama?
Hanako: …I’ve never been.
Yuzuki: Oh, were you not there to visit before? I thought you and her arrived together… .
Hanako: We did. She wanted me to visit her after I left, but we went to Tokyo to train with Yasu instead. So I came from there.
Yuzuki: That explains it. (She turns around to look at the rail map) I was just looking around here for someplace to go. Haven’t really gotten out of town since… high school.
Hanako: Wait, so… you’re leaving town, but without a destination? …Did something happen?
Yuzuki: Eh… Yui’s really been keeping a lot of secrets from me. Even about my childhood friend being back from the dead… I just wanted to take a break for a bit.
Hanako: …I know Yui has it rough, having lost her close friend and all, but… I cannot understand her behavior lately…
Yuzuki: There’s been some problem with… Kobayashi-san too, right? Did she go back to Kamihama?
Hanako: Y… Yes. Yui and Kiwa-chan got into an argument, and Kiwa-chan went home to Kamihama. …I went to confront Yui about the fight, and was told there was more to the story than it seemed. But now Kiwa-chan isn’t responding to my texts or calls, so…
Yuzuki: Th-that’s… a bit of a problem… I hope she hasn’t run into any more trouble back in Kamihama…
Hanako: It’s… it’s just the not knowing that makes me concerned. But I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t… an impulse based on old habits. But even so, I… I can’t rest without hearing back from her. S-So…
Yuzuki: (She nods to herself) Hmm. Maybe I’ll go to Kamihama too. It’s a bit more “business” than “vacation,” but…
Hanako: Ah, um… well, I have no objections. But are you sure? I don’t foresee any danger, exactly, though I’m not opposed to friendly company…
Yuzuki: I think it’ll bother me if I jet off to some vacation spot while this is still happening. Who knows, Kamihama might be a nice town too.
Hanako: Kiwa-chan has only ever had nice things to say about it. Even moreso once she stopped being a Witch.
Yuzuki: Hah, I don’t want to know what things a Witch would think make a good town.
Hanako: Ehe… well, in any case, the train will be here any moment. If you’re sure, of course. I don’t want to cause any problems for your vacation, Tokai-san.
Yuzuki: (She hefts her pack up onto her back) Like I said, I didn’t have a destination in mind and was waiting for something to strike me. I guess this was it!
Hanako: (Showing a warm smile, Hanako simply nods) Very well! Let’s try to have fun on our trip, then!
